NEON’s Project BudBurst was founded on the premise that every plant tells a story about changing climates.  We know that plants respond to changes in precipitation, temperature, and day length – but how does that make them storytellers?  That’s where citizen scientists come in.  People everywhere can give voice to plants in their community by sharing observations of when plants leaf, flower, and fruit. Turns out that this data is useful when collected over time to better understand climate change.  So the next time your lilac or maple wants to have a meaningful conversation, take the time to listen.
