Research shows that student-active teaching in lecture and laboratory courses improves student learning. In this workshop, participants will discuss how to develop and implement student-active approaches to teaching. In addition, we will address how to assess the effectiveness of activities in the usual context of courses. Finally, we will discuss the preparation of activities for publication in EcoEdDL or TIEE. During the workshop, faculty will have the opportunity to work on activities at all stages of this process in a collaborative framework. The goals of the workshop are: (1) to equip faculty with the background necessary to integrate student-active approaches in their teaching, (2) to increase the dissemination of these activities through EcoEdDL and TIEE, and (3) to develop a cadre of ESA members willing to participate in leadership roles in support of ecology education. The workshop will be supported in part by grant funds from NSF to the ESA Office of Education.
