Background/Question/Methods

We conducted a research on carbon dynamics for alpine natural wetlands in the eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.  We collected soil samples with peat depths (0 ~ 60cm) with different vegetation communities and hydrology conditions along elevation gradients from 800 m to 3500 m.

Results/Conclusions

The preliminary study explored that above- and below-ground peak biomass of the plant community have direct and positive influences on a short-term carbon pools directly; and hydrology is a main factor affecting a long-term carbon pools. This study will be a foundation of subsequently quantitative research on the carbon dynamics in alpine wetlands as global climate change.
