A real-world comprehensive approach to planning, restoring, creating, and managing successful natural areas. With over 20 years of experience in natural areas implementation and management, Pizzo’s Landscape Architects and Ecologists share their assessment of deficiencies found within the “industry standards” typically used for natural areas restoration planning; explain why these standards don’t always work; and introduce you to innovative field-tested approaches that produce successful natural areas projects. We'll discuss what constitutes a successful natural area. You'll observe photos of a successful natural area and a failed natural area and hear a dialogue discussing the key differences. You'll learn about Ecological Masterplanning including building your planning team, the Masterplanning process, programming and planning. Implementation, including specific site planning, conceptual planning, design development, construction documentation and bidding. Ecological Restoration Specifications including brush cutting, clearing, seeding and planting will be discussed as well as Stewardship, Management and Prescribed Fire.
